Tomato...TOE-MA-TOE
Today was an interesting day. I know I've blogged about being a CSI before but today takes the cake. We have a problem here in our house, it's called strange-things-happen-and-nobody-fesses-up-itis...
After we arrived home from having lunch at SF I found that one of our tomatoes had been cut into like this:
So I asked who cut into the tomato??? Every answer I got came back the same, "NOT ME". So I told them they were all grounded until someone fessed up and told the truth, because frankly I didn't do it!
An hour later or so I had time to think about it. C does not have the coordination to do this lovely of work. If he were to cut into a tomato it would look more like a murder not fruit art. He also is very scared of knives since his "nose incident" so I don't think he would use a knife. So that narrowed down the suspect list considerably. Now on to the girls. I asked each one individually and they again denied. Next thing I know they are whispering in a corner and K suggests that they each write down any information they know and give it to me on paper. This makes me suspicious that she suggests this and am very curious as to what 'information' she may have. So I oblige and they set to writing their statement in private.
This is what I get:
1. confession that she only put one cut in the tomato after seeing it was already mutilated (from K) basically admitting to lying about cutting it at all.
2. a note that simply says, "I DID NOT DO IT" in big letters. (from O)
3. another note that says, "K wants me to say I did it but I didn't" (from O)
So Chris gets home after I have had time to stew on things and we hold court.
All charges are dropped against C he is in the clear and told to remain quiet during the proceeding unless he wants to get into trouble too.
I am the prosecutor, Chris is the judge and K and O are the defendants. L is just there to drool and babble.
Evidence is presented and examined and determined that the tomato is not dried out enough for the cuts to be made last night as originally presented by K (she wasn't home last night therefore she thought she had an alibi). Statements are read and K and O get a chance to defend themselves. During this testimony it is discovered that in previous infarctions these two parties have gotten together and created false confessions to get out of trouble. This piece of information creates doubt in the jury and judge (Chris and I). If they have lied before then they must be lying again? Right? K is frantically defending herself like crazy and O is eerily silent, both looking extremely guilty.
So testimony is finished and prosecution rests and the jury is sequestered at Lone Star. Hey they needed to eat it had been a LONG day of deliberation! (the Steak was delish and it gave time for reflection and deliberation). Before the jury left the courthouse however they tried to persuade one party to turn State's Evidence. If one could get info from the other then our problems were solved. Arriving back at the courthouse no new evidence was found so we had to decide on a verdict. One juror was ready to drop all charges and let it be, one juror was a hard ass and wasn't going to let it go. Soooo Judge Chris had each defendant write down what she thought they should have as a punishment. Here's what they said,
K- 5 days grounding
O- 1 day no friends'
After reading them Judge Chris gave K's punishment to O, and O's punishment to K.
I know it all sounds not fair but let's face it SOMEONE cut the tomato.
Really it's a tomato and I'm not even mad about it. I'm mad about the fact that constantly little things like this happen around my house and someone is lying about it. Just tell the truth and we'd all be happier. Some interesting things happened after the verdict was read:
1. K immediately offered to switch punishments with her sister...weird.
2. K made it very clear that she was REALLY mad.
3. O just went and cried for a while.
4. O came and snuggled me and when I asked if she learned to never cut a tomato again without asking she said, "Yes"
5. When K was asked the same question she replied, "but I didn't cut the tomato"...HMMMM.
6. We have all been sitting in the same room for the last 2 hours and the girls have hardly fought...HHMMM.
So around here it's basically, guilty until proven innocent, and if we can't prove any of you innocent you are all in trouble.
I'm sure in 10-15 years someone will confess to this and they will laugh at how they pulled on over on mom and I'll be really mad all over again. I'll show them though even if they are 22 and 25 I can still inflict my revenge...just have then try and get me to babysit those grandkids...!
