Lincoln New Salem


Last night we decided to take the family to a nearby historic site, Lincoln New Salem. It is the old homestead that Lincoln apparently lived in for 4 years during his life. Most of the village has been reconstructed but it was really cool to see. They have people dressed in period clothing demonstrating trades, and home life from that time. It's kind of like Nauvoo but the volunteers don't wear little black tags!

Once a year they do a candlelight tour and the whole place is filled with candles and lanterns to light the paths. They give out hot cider and ginger bread, and have a cute gift shop (that was closed by the time we got there). It was really crowded so we only got to see a few homes. I would like to go back in the day light so we can see everything and go through more buildings. We still had a great time with our friends. They came and had dinner at our house before hand, clam chowder, bread, and caramel Rice Krispy Treats, and chocolate mint pie for dessert. It was a little cold out. Chris put the baby in the carrier and off we went.

Oh my goodness, you guys are in coats...we're still in the 90s in the day time here. Wow. You are one amazing mama, all the things that you do!

We went to the Lincoln Museum this weekend, and I said "You know, one of these times, we need to go to New Salem." I've lived in Illinois for almost 20 years now - you'd think I could have found the time. I even lived in Springfied for 6 months and STILL didn't go.

Thumbs up for the Lincoln Museum though. It is pretty cool too.

I just added something to my list of things I want to do while we live in Illinois. That sounds like so much fun. I loved the coats too. We had 70 degree weather today and tomorrow is supposed to be 36 and snowing - got to love Denver.

Today we went to our new ward.  We still have one more week in our current ward but we just wanted to check it out, get our faces known, and possibly drum up some help to unload a moving truck in a couple weeks. Today is Chris Birthday! I'm awful about making plans and doing things for him so this year I have tried my best to be better. We are having a small party if you will , with some friends tonight and having his favorite apple cake with caramel topping. Sometimes life changes and we are all trying to catch up

From day one I could tell there was something different about L...he is my 4th child and right from the start I could tell.  I didn't know I could tell.  I knew he was different from my other kids but I didn't have a clue as to why, or what our future would bring. L was my most sweet baby.  All babies are sweet you say, all babies are different.  I know all babies are sweet but I mean this baby was SWEET.  He slept through the night almost from day one, to a mom 6 hours is like an eternity so I'm calling it through the night.  He rarely cried.  When he did and all the normal boxes were checked, feeding, changing, hot/cold, he just wanted to be left alone.  He would lay for hours on the floor on a blanket and watch life happen.  Then he would just fall asleep and take a nap and it was wonderful.  Being a mom of many kiddos it was like this baby was sent to me on purpose to make it easy.  Usually I have a baby and think "I'm not eve...
