Thing 7

Thing 7 is books:

When I was a kid I remember that I hated when my mom read books.  She would lose herself in them and it was hard to get her attention.  I remember that  I felt ignored and could not wait until she was done with the book, only to be disappointed when she picked up another one.  So I know exactly how my own children feel when they see me reading!

Now that I'm older I appreciate the example my mom was in regards to reading.  She loved it and introduced me to it early and often.  I too can lose myself in a book like nothing else.  If the book is good, I mean REAL good, I can ignore anyone, stay up til all hours in the morning, and think of nothing but the book.  The worst it has ever gotten was with the Twilight series.  I started reading them after the series was already written so I read all 4 book in about a 5 day period, seriously I was obsessed!

I do have to state however that I'm not a reader that loves the classics, or is in it for the literary content, I want to be entertained.  I want to forget about my life (not that it's bad) and dive into a fantasy world that is nothing like my own life.  (maybe that's why I like General Hospital so much!!)  I don't want any self helps, or non-fiction (maybe occasionally), I want fantasy, mystery, romance (not trashy romance but a good love story).

My favorite genre is mystery, I have an author that I follow her name is Sue Grafton and she is awesome.  I wait not so patiently for her to write her series.  They only come out about once every 2 years so it's a loooong wait.  Right now I'm reading The Hunger Games, and I can't put it down!

The problem I have with books is I can't remember them after I've read them.  I tend to forget the plots, characters etc the second the book is over.  I started an account over at Good Reads just so I could keep track of the books I've read and write a little review so I don't reread books.  I do the same thing with movies.

Anyhoo I heart books and hope that I can share that love with my kids.  If you know K you know she already shares my love.

Hopefully, I'll finish "Catching Fire" before you're ready to borrow it. ;D

BTW- When I finished "Hunger Games", I told Bry he should read it. He asked me about it last night. I don't know if he really wanted to start it, or if he bored & teasing me. Oh well, he who speaks up last, gets left behind. Enjoy!

Books are my heart too. When I was younger . . . junior high age . . . I would go to the library to the Autobiography section and start with one book from each letter until I finished the alphabet. Then I'd start again. To this day I can not look at anything with "Laurel & Hardy" in it because one of them used the "F" word more times than I can count in the book. It also helped me to learn that a LOT of people start out as nothing and make something of themselves.

I too forget what I read . . . dang!

Excellent mystery: The Thirteenth Tale. Read it. You won't regret it.

I am the SAME way. I get so lost in a book that the next thing I know it is 3am. I forget everything the minute I put it down, so I'll have to look into Good Reads.

It doesn't matter if you forgot that you already read them, I have read my favorite books at least 5 times, some even more, and I still love them!
