Run like the wind!!!!

Well I didn't come in 1st...but I didn't come in last either!!!  I was completely ready to be the last poor soul crossing that finish line today at the 5k, but I wasn't, to mine and O's astonishment.  I have to say that I did a lot better than I thought I would.  I ran about 95% of the course maybe more, and I did it in 45 minutes 34 seconds!

When I run it's NOT fast, I got passed by some power walkers, a guy with a 2 year old on his back pushing a double stroller with twins in it, a pregnant lady, a 6 year old, and some old ladies with walkers!  Ok, that last part wasn't true the kids was 8...

The last 1/4 mile I decided to look back and see if I was last but there were a lot of people behind me, a guy on crutches, and a lady giving birth!

I came around the last corner and had started to walk but my kids were waiting for me on the path and cheering like crazy, jumping up and down and yelling my name, so I found the last of my energy and ran the last bit.  It was a great feeling to accomplish a goal I had been working on for a few weeks now.  It was great that my kids have seen me be healthier, and actually follow through with this goal.  They ran with me through the finish line, it was perfect, I may have shed a tear.

Chris treated me to breakfast afterward, I was starving!  He's been so great and supportive.  He's watched the kids while I jog at least 4 times a week, he's been excited when I get home to hear about my progress, he's been VERY encouraging and given me words of encouragement through the whole process.  Today was my "grand finale" so to speak but it wasn't really it's just the beginning.  Now I need to build up more endurance and get my pace going a little faster so I can catch up to the lady with one leg!

Have I told you enough yet that I think this is FAN-TAB-U-LOUS?!!! You are a rock star! Isn't running fun? Ok, so it's not fun all the time but I do feel so accomplished after! I finally got back to where I could run 3 miles without stopping. The altitude is BRUTAL here. I can't wait to start running with Burgandy from this seasons BL show! Thom already has. I wish I had some extra cash because I soooooooo would love to get a group of Normalites and go do the Ragnar Relay Race in Chicago. It's not for awhile but you have to register now. I will have to schedule a visit when there is a race and maybe a bunch of us can do it. So, when is your next one? Really though, YOU ROCK!! You look great too! :-)

Seriously- WAY.TO.GO.!

I'm supposed to do a 5k in two weeks, and I hope I can do it. Seeing your pics makes me excited to do it- somehow a number and the crowds help you do better than when you are by yourself and it's hot, or you're thirsty... or tired... or whatever else excuse there is.

Congrats, and start looking at races now for next year!

So Proud of you! You ROCK Girl!

Now, SEVERAL people we know are going to bug you about doing the Bloomington Lake Run in May. You're gonna have to figure out someplace to run when it gets too cold, so you can maintain your progress...You really are AWESOME!
