Talent
I've been thinking a lot lately about talent. Who has talent? Who has the best talents? Who has the most talents?
I guess the answer to these questions is simple...EVERYONE!
We had a ward activity on Saturday night. It was a fundraiser for our Young Women to go to Girl's Camp. There was of course a dinner for us to donate to and there was also a silent auction where we could bid on goods or services donated by various ward members. I was astonished at the amount of talent that we have just in our little ward here. I say little because I know out west there are wards that are a lot bigger than ours. In the auction you could bid on anything from handmade crafts, to yard work, to cooking classes, to teeth whitening! Our Stake President was willing to donate math tutoring, our YW Pres donated swimming lessons, sisters in the Relief Society took time out of their busy schedules to make and sew and create beautiful handiwork (most of them did not even have a daughter in YW). These are people who have a lot to do in their regular lives with kids, and callings, and work but they were willing to give all they had to help these girls go to camp and become closer to our Heavenly Father. What a great ward!!!
In my personal life talents have also been taking center stage lately. I have a child that is struggling in school. He's not struggling socially or anything and really I don't even know if he knows he's struggling, but he is. He's not quite up to where he should be reading wise and I don't know how to help him. The school has been great with giving him extra help but I don't think that's enough. So the other day I was talking to my friend about this and venting a little concern and she offered to tutor him. She was a teacher before she had kids and actually tutored children that needed help in reading so she knows what to look for and has all the tools to help him. I asked her what she would charge for something like that and she said she would be willing to trade services. She know Chris is good with computers and her and her hubby are not, I told her I could bring her dinner on tutoring nights, or mow her lawn whatever it took to get C up to where he needs to be. I don't have the talent of teaching like she does, I don't have the tools that are necessary to successfully teach my child to read, but I have a friend that does and is willing to share her talents with us in exchange for us sharing our talents with her.
I am so grateful that God gave us all unique and different talents and interests and abilities. I am so grateful for generous people that are willing to share and barter and serve each other. No talent is better than another. No one has more talent than anyone else, it's all what you do with it. Not everyone has the same talents, one may be great at playing the cello, and another might be great at quantum physics, but each are great if we use them to lift each other up.
So go find your talent!!!
