They don't see our story

We are STILL trying to sell our home.  It's been a roller coaster to say the least.  We had it up for sale in the winter and had barely anyone look at it.  6 months of disappointment.  This time around we have a new realtor and things are looking more positive.  We had a realtor open house the first week and got some pretty harsh feedback.  We had since tackled all of the things on the list and knocked them out.  What is surprising to me is the things that people find fault in.  Things that we live with every day and are no big deal to us are HUGE deals to others...

  • Messy paint on the ceiling...we see a project done ourselves that the whole family worked on and we taught the kids to paint a room and some got on the ceiling.  A fun family project, or some service done by young missionaries when we needed help the most.
  • Unkept yard...we see 2 years of health issues, and anxiety in our family and taking care of what was more important than a lawn, ourselves!  Not caring what our yard looked like because it was a struggle every day to get out of bed and face the challenges in our life.  Making sure WE are ok and not making our grass a priority.
  • Dings in the walls...we see Hot Wheel cars raced down the hall walls and chipping off paint.  4year olds learning to use a hammer THE WRONG WAY!  Temper tantrums and slamming doors and DIY projects gone wrong!  Wrestling matches, and nurf gun wars, and light sabers wielded!
  • Over grown garden...we see an 11 year old with a passion for farming and not a lot of space to do it!  A momma that has a black thumb that tries her best to help but cannot get things to grow!
  • Metal filing cabinet in the downstairs hall...we see the only thing heavy enough to keep the dog from escaping through the cat door and keeping us from getting another $100 ticket!
  • Scribbles on the wall...we see a 4yo learning to write his name and being excited to write it EVERYWHERE!  An 18 month old learning to use a marker/pen/crayon for the first time and not keeping it where he should.
  • Wood pallet pile on the side of the house...we see moms business growing and reusing things that others throw away.
  • Rocking chair needs to be removed from living room...we see babies being rocked and loved and kissed daily and feeling comfort.
  • Barking Dogs and crates...we see two dogs that we rescued from a shelter and really love.  One of them has literally been an anxiety saver for Chris.

Potential buyers don't see the life lived in our home, but they cannot see their life in our home either. It's a fine line we walk between erasing our lives here and making it look too empty...
